The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Scheme of Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the volunteers of college to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. The aim of the NSS is to provide personality development and hands-on experience to young students in delivering community service. The motto of NSS “Not Me, But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service. Being an active member of NSS, the volunteers would have the exposure and experience to become an accomplished social leader, an efficient administrator and a person who understands human nature.
The NSS Badge Proud to Serve the Nation:
All the youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS-led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping the needy.
The Konark wheel in the NSS badge having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of the day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours.
Red colour in the badge signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.
The Blue colour signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of mankind.
The College has two NSS units, one aided unit and other self-financing unit. The NSS unit of our college, with 200 volunteers, plays an active role in shaping our student humane and responsible citizens. We conduct a special camping programme of seven days duration in adopted places and it provides unique opportunities to students for group living. The various activities of the unit include blood donation, planting of trees, conducting awareness about anti-drug, road safety, covid-19 protocols, disease and health care, disaster management, personality development programmes, surveys for adopted villages, cleaning and other constructive activities.
We received a special appreciation from Sri. G. Sridhar, Regional Director of NSS(Kerala and Lakshadeep), Govt of India, in the presence of Vice Chancellor and Pro VC of APJAKTU for “Mapathon Keralam” Project in association with Kerala state IT Mission. We also received a state level appreciation award for coordinating Covid Warriors of NSS from Dr M.K Jayaraj, Vice Chancellor Calicut University. Last year (2021-2022) our volunteer Sneha represented APJAKTU and participated in the Republic Day parade held at Kartavya Path, New Delhi. Another volunteer, Kiran, has participated in the national youth festival (2021) as well as in a national integration camp held at Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

A rural development programme broadly focusing upon the development in the villages which includes social development, cultural development and spread motivation among the people on social mobilization of the village community. The programme was launched by the Honorable Prime Minister of India Sri. NarendraModi on the birth anniversary of Dr.Jayaprakash Narayan, on 11 October 2014.The distinct feature of this Yojana is that it is (a) demand driven, (b) inspired by society , (c) based on people’s participation. NSS Technical Cell CE Perumon Unit 539 has been appointed by AICTE and NSS technical cell Kerala for conducting survey and technological intervention with PanayamGramapanchayath.
Preliminary survey named ‘Developed Village – Developed Nation’ has been already conducted and uploaded to AICTE by NSS Volunteer Secretary Mr.Ajmal N. S5 ME and now NSS tech. cell CE Perumon has prepared a DPR (detailed project report) to conduct a ‘VIKASANA’ seminar along with Panayam Gramapanchayath, Member of the parliament and others. After the seminar technological aid will be provided for the same.
All the NSS Volunteers of College of Engineering Perumon actively participated in the flood relief activities despite of all circumstances. Everyone took part in different activities like collection of materials, packing, loading, visiting relief camps, volunteering etc. Different committees were formed with immediate effect in order to make the flood relief campaign of our unit efficient. The timely coordination of the program officers made the volunteers inspired and motivated to do all those possible helps which they can do for the victims.
